This is my electronic photo-album on Pismo Beach, one of my favorite beaches in California. Pismo Beach is located on the California Central Coast, midway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. A popular weekend getaway destination, this nostalgic beach town offers wide beaches, clean air, friendly locals, and year-round Mediterranean weather, truly making Pismo Beach a beach for all seasons.
Pismo Beach offers all kinds of attractions including hiking, swimming, surf fishing, and digging for the famous Pismo clam. There are spectacular tree-lined dunes and the beach is popular with bird watchers.
Each year, thousands of vibrant orange and black monarch butterflies flock to Pismo beach, seeking shelter from the freezing northern winters. From late October to February, the butterflies cluster in the limbs of a grove of Eucalyptus trees at Pismo Beach. The colony is one of the largest in the US hosting an average of over 25,000 butterflies annually over the last five years. The monarch butterflies that visit Pismo Beach are a special variety with a life span of six months instead of the common variety which only live for six weeks. Even with an extended life span, these fabulous butterflies that leave in March will never return.
Thank you for visiting my photo blog. There are so many California tourist attractions, it’s hard to know where to begin. From Sea World-San Diego in the south to majestic Mt. Shasta near its northern border, California is without a doubt a vacationer’s paradise. I hope that my photos have given you a glimpse of the immense beauty and wonder of the Golden State.
