THE MISSION INN, RIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA

This is my electronic photo album on The Mission Inn Hotel and Spa in Riverside, California. The Mission Inn, is more than a hotel, or an arts center or a historical landmark, it is the heart and soul of the Inland Empire.

The Inn was the dream of Frank Augustus Miller, who later became known as the Master of the Inn. He came to Riverside in 1874 at the age of 17 with his family. The family built a two-story adobe home and took in paying guests for extra income and soon added hotel wings. Frank bought the home-hotel in 1880 and added additional wings as well as a garden.

In 1902, Frank modernized and remodeled the hotel and emphasized its early Spanish and Mexican heritage.  The Inn became one of Southern California's  famous winter resort hotels. Miller and his family visited Spain and other European countries and collected objects of interest and art of all kinds for display at the hotel. Additionally, he became fascinated with Asian culture and started collecting Asian artifacts and works of art. Most of Frank Miller's collections are now on display at the Inn's Museum.

Thank you for visiting my photo blog. There are so many California tourist attractions, it’s hard to know where to begin. From Sea World-San Diego in the south to majestic Mt. Shasta near its northern border, California is without a doubt a vacationer’s paradise. I hope that my photos have given you a glimpse of the immense beauty and wonder of the Golden State.
